The Regional Director for Support to the Investment and Competitiveness stated on Pico Island that private investment in the Azores "continues to register a very positive growth momentum." It has already contributed to the creation of "many new companies and to very important renovation of the regional business fabric."
Ricardo Medeiros spoke during a visit to the company Luís Carlos – Atividades Turísticas. On the occasion, he pointed out that the Azorean business fabric continues to grow in a sustained manner, according to the figures released by the Informa D&B Barometer regarding the four months of 2019.
These data are published on a monthly basis and are intended to monitor the most relevant phenomena of the Portuguese business fabric, also presenting a sectoral and district perspective.
"We continue to register in the Azores the highest business creation ratio in the country, standing at 2.9 between May 2018 and April 2019," Ricardo Medeiros stressed, adding that it represents the "creation of almost three new companies for each company dissolved in the Azores."
"Analysing these figures, we can conclude that the national ration stands at 2.5 and only 2.0 in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, which confirms that the dynamics of our economic growth remains higher than the national average," stated the government official.
According to the same study, 504 companies were created in the Azores in the period between May 2018 and April 2019, with only 175 companies closing down.
Considering the distribution per districts and the same period, Angra do Heroísmo continues to show a growth trend that has been the highest in the country, recording a ratio of 3.7 companies for each company dissolved.
In Ponta Delgada, this ratio stood at 2.7 and 2.6 in Horta.
According to the Regional Director, the data confirm the importance of attracting investment and companies in the Azores. This situation is the result of the work that has been carried out, not only in terms of incentives but also in terms of all the conditions we offer to attract investments and the emergence of new businesses, which have boosted the growth of the Azorean domestic product and, consequently, the development of the Region.
