Fall in unemployment in October shows we are on the right track, says Regional Director
The Regional Director for Employment and Vocational Training stated in Ribeira Grande that the data now published by the Employment and Vocational Training Institute (IEFP) regarding October "validate the trend of consistent decline in the number of unemployed in the Region" and the fall in unemployment in October shows we are on the right track."
"In October, there was a decrease of 11.1% percent over the same period, reaching a new low in seven years," said Paula Andrade. She spoke on the sidelines of a session that marked the beginning of Skills for Employability courses, covering 80 trainees.
According to the Regional Director, "the IEFP data shows that there were 7,713 unemployed in the Region in October, corresponding to 964 fewer unemployed compared to the same month of 2017.
"In October, there was an increase of almost 48% in job vacancies filled in and a growth of 43.5% in terms of requests for new jobs," stressed Paula Andrade.
The Regional Director for Employment and Vocational Training pointed out that the Regional Government "has pursued active employment and training policies, through the creation of courses aimed at improving the qualifications and skills of Azoreans, thus contributing to their self-fulfilment and employability."
