More than 1,121 jobs created in the Azores over the last three months, reveals INE
The Regional Director for Employment and Vocational Training expressed her satisfaction with the results published today by the National Statistics Institute (INE) regarding employment. According to them, the Azores have, once again, registered a reduction in unemployment rate and a very significant increase in employment creation.
"The data released today show a consistent and sustained reduction in the unemployment rate in the Azores and a corresponding increase in the employment created in the Region," said Paula Andrade. On the occasion, she added that "1,121 more Azoreans found employment in the last three months" and that "today there are 631 fewer unemployed Azoreans than a year ago."
The reduction of the unemployment rate to 8.4% is even more relevant when it occurs in the first quarter of the year as there is usually an increase in the unemployment rate due to seasonal variations.
In this context, the Azores, in contrast with the national trend, were able to reduce the unemployment rate in this quarter and, thus, consolidate the reduction in unemployment over the same period of the previous year, i.e., a reduction of 0.5 percentage points in the unemployment rate.
"The creation of 1,121 new jobs in the first quarter of this year reinforces our confidence in the path and strategy we are following. This year, we will continue to create jobs and reduce unemployment in the Azores in a solid and sustained manner," said the Regional Director.
"Today, there are 12,786 more employed Azoreans than five years ago and 11,425 fewer unemployed Azoreans," added the government official.
"We are pleased to see this reality. It motivates us to work harder in order to support the Azoreans and regional companies to create even more jobs and further reduce unemployment. This is our challenge and it is being overcome with success with the results we have achieved so far," said Paula Andrade.
