More than 750 young Azorean university students have applied for traineeships at regional companies to take +lace between July and September under ESTAGIAR U programme. It was created in 2005 by the Government of the Azores with the aim of bring university students closer to the labour market.
The Regional Director for Employment and Vocational Training stressed that this programme "is regarded as a gateway to promote the employability of young people enrolled in higher education, being an opportunity to have an experience in the labour world."
"It aims to encourage the sharing of knowledge in the relation between students and companies and vice versa," stated Paula Andrade. According to her, a total of 756 young students applied for the programme at the electronic platform www.estagiar.azores.gov.pt during the month of May, the stipulated period for the submission of applications.
"The interface between the search and the offer of internships has been made faster and more efficient for students and companies, based on an underlying logic of jobmatch - the right young person for the right place," said the government official.
The analysis of applications will take place during the month of June; young people and companies will be informed about the respective results.
"In addition to disseminating the Estagiar U Programme and its results, the Government of the Azores wants to convey to young people and their families that it is focused on creating more and better jobs but, above all, that it believes in its potential," said Paula Andrade.
