Regional budget increases investment in integration of young people into labour market
The Regional Director for Employment and Vocational Training stated in Povoação, São Miguel Island, that the Regional Government "has been working for a long time" in the training offer for next school year, covering vocational education, the "Reativar" programme and the training of workers.
Paula Andrade pointed out that "the current social and economic context of the Region has undergone changes that have created new challenges," defending that "the development of tourism has fostered new investments and new employment prospects in various areas of the regional economy."
In this regard, she stressed that the Regional Government has "worked for a long time" with vocational training schools and social partners with the aim of "providing a training offer in line with the needs of the market and young people's interests and aptitudes."
"The Regional Government will continue to focus on the reinforcement of skills among Azoreans by, one the one hand, improving and reinforcing vocational training courses and, on the other hand, ensuring the training of workers," said the Regional Director. She spoke at diploma-delivery ceremony to 41 graduates of Monsenhor João Maurício de Amaral Ferreira Vocational Training School.
"This is how we want to improve the performance of Azoreans and support their professional and personal achievement, while boosting the efficiency and competitiveness of the Azorean business fabric," said the government official.
Paula Andrade ensured that the Regional Government will continue to focus on the vocational education of Azorean youth. According to her, "the Government invested nearly 100 million Euros in the last four years to provide 8,300 Azoreans with the opportunity of pursuing vocational education in areas considered strategic for the sustainable development of the Region."
