Ponta Delgada ,  December 19, 2019

There are 8,442 more Azoreans employed and 2,877 fewer unemployed since the beginning of the current legislative term

The Regional Director for Employment and Vocational Training revealed today there are “8,442 more employed Azoreans and 2,877 fewer Azoreans enrolled in socio-occupational integration programmes since the beginning of the legislative term.

Paula Andrade spoke after a visit, held under the Regional Government's incentives for employment creation, to Ideastation-Soluções Informáticas, a company dedicated to IT consulting that operates in the tour sector.

"The creation of more stable and better paid jobs continues to reflect the positive economic dynamics in the Region and, in this regard, the reduction of 728 Azoreans covered by socio-professional integration measures last year is also an indicator of this reality," noted the government official.

Paula Andrade stressed that “the creation of more jobs is simultaneous with the reduction of Azoreans benefiting from socio-professional integration measures. According to her, this is the result of the active employment measures promoted by the Azorean Government as well as of current needs of markets and its entrepreneurs, who need the best and most qualified human resources.

Considering the data published today by the Institute for Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP) regarding November, the Regional Director pointed out "a reduction of 9.3% in November 2019 over to the same month of the previous year."

"According to IEFP, the Regional Agencies for Qualification and Employment registered 6,994 unemployed people in November, corresponding to 715 fewer people looking for a first job or a new job, compared to the same month in 2018," stressed the Regional Director.

Paula Andrade also mentioned that "the job placement ratio, i.e., the ratio of job responses to job advertisements stood at 84.7% in November. In this context, she stressed that the Azorean labour market "is much better," but that the Regional Government will not stop as long as there are job vacancies to be filled."
