The Regional Director for Employment and Vocational Training reiterated in Angra do Heroísmo that the performance of the Azorean economy has been generating more wealth and created more jobs, thus contributing to a "significant reduction in the number of unemployed."
According to data from the Institute for Employment and Professional Training (IEFP) published today, there was a decrease of 11.1% in unemployment in the Region in January, compared to the same period of the previous year.
"The decrease in the number of unemployed in January corresponds to 963 fewer unemployed in comparison with the previous year," stated Paula Andrade after a visit to the company "As Nossas Quintas," a project promoted by the Cáritas Association of Terceira Island.
"The IEFP data show the consistent downward trend in unemployment registered by the Azores in recent years," the Regional Director said, noting that 7,685 unemployed were registered in the Region as of late January.
In January, the job placement ratio, that is, the response to job offers at the Agencies for Qualification and Employment of the Azores stood at 84.2%.
"The Government of the Azores will continue to undertake efforts towards the further reduction of unemployment in the Region and the creation of more and better employment," said Paula Andrade.
