18 new projects approved under "Empreende Jovem" involving the creation of 42 jobs
The selection committee of "Empreende Jovem" (Youth Entrepreneurship) has proposed the approval of 18 new investment projects submitted in January, which represents a total investment of 4.8 million Euros and the creation of 42 new jobs.
"These new projects evidence an increase in terms of quantity and investment compared to the same month of 2013, thus confirming the growing confidence of young entrepreneurs in the future of regional economy and the development of the Region," stated the Vice-President of the Government of the Azores.
Sérgio Ávila noted the "very positive and encouraging response" provided by "Empreende Jovem." In this regard, the government official reminded that "a total of 167 new projects were presented last year, representing an investment of over 31 million Euros and the creation of 364, following the implementation of these investments."
"The results yielded by this initiative are very good, being one of the various incentive programmes implemented by the Government with the aim of encouraging and stimulating our economy. Moreover, this programme has been able to boost the impact of proposed investments, particularly on job creation, restructuring and renovation of the regional business sector and, subsequently, of the production structure of our Region," said Sérgio Ávila.
Of the 18 projects submitted in January that have been proposed for approval by the selection committee of "Empreende Jovem," six will be developed on the island of Pico, four on the island of São Miguel, three on the island of Terceira and two on the island of Faial; the remaining projects will be developed on the islands of São Jorge, Flores and Graciosa.
