The Azores cryptomeria will be highlighted at LIGNA 2015, the world's leading fair in the timber industry taking place in Hannover, Germany, from May 11 to 15.
The Azorean participation is promoted by the Regional Government, through the Vice-Presidency, following the schedule of the Plan for Trade Fairs and Business Missions 2015, which has been implemented by the Society for the Business Development of the Azores (SDEA) in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Azores.
In the case of LIGNA, this is the first participation of the Azores, which are extending the scope of their participation to new markets and sectors, namely the timber industry.
Hence, the participation of the Azores in LIGNA 2015 is an active contribution to the expansion of exports in the timber and logging industry, with special emphasis on cryptomeria wood.
This important endogenous resource has been widely exploited in recent years by the timber industry, being currently a product with potential to boost the economic development of the Region.
With an average of 90 thousand visits, LIGNA is a trade fair exclusively directed to professionals from all areas of the timber and logging industry. This event gathers professionals from over 40 countries.
The companies participating in the fair, whose exhibition space occupies an area of about 123 thousand square metres, are divided into several areas: wood processing, carpentry, interior finishes, furniture, sawing, forest technologies, construction carpentry, wood panels and energy production from wood, among others.
The participation of Azorean companies in LIGNA 2015 will provide regional entrepreneurs with the possibility to access new markets for the promotion and commercialisation of final and intermediate goods produced from cryptomeria wood. In addition, they will have the opportunity to contact with other companies at an event that shows the best that is done in terms of efficiency and technology in this industry.
