The Vice-Presidency of the Government promotes, once again, the participation of the Azores at the Lisbon International Crafts (FIA), which will take place at FIL between June 25 and July 3.
The stand representing the Azores features 11 craft production units from São Miguel, Terceira and Pico that will showcase their works produced in different craft areas: embroidery, lace, fish scales, leather working, nativity scenes in "lapinha" (sea-themed nativity scene), jewellery, weaving, clothing and fashion accessories, sculpture in stone and plant fibres.
In addition to the exhibition of crafts, the Azorean stand was developed by the Regional Centre for Handicrafts (CRAA) will feature a display of garments. This event is the result of the Creative Residency project that was focused on typical embroidery from Terceira and Graciosa.
The need to find new uses for embroidery in order to ensure the sustainability of industries and associations was a claim that the Regional Government has responded with the organisation of the Creative Residency and the exhibition that will be open at this fair, the largest in the Iberian Peninsula.
The participation of CRAA in FIA is intended to promote Azorean handicrafts and artisans in a perspective of reaching new audiences. For nine days, this event will be attended by professionals and fans of handicrafts, arts and design as well as those who are interested in handicrafts as a cultural manifestation.
