Azores to host launch of European Campaign for Safety and Health at Work in Portugal
The Vice-Presidency of the Government, through the Regional Labour Inspectorate and in collaboration with the Authority for Working Conditions (ACT), will hold a seminar in Angra do Heroísmo on Friday, May 4, to launch the European Campaign for Safety and Health at Work in Portugal.
The opening session of the event at Teatro Angrense will be chaired by the Vice-President of the Regional Government Sérgio Ávila, and the Inspector General of Labour, Luísa Guimarães.
This European campaign aims to raise awareness for the importance of preventing risks from hazardous substances. Moreover, it also intends to help clarifying common misunderstandings, promote risk assessment and raise awareness for the risks associated with exposure to carcinogens at the workplace.
The seminar will feature speakers from the Azores and Mainland Portugal. The campaign will be presented by Andrew Smith, Communication Manager of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work.
The initiative will also identify groups of workers with specific needs and higher levels of risk of exposure to hazardous chemicals.
The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (PFN/EU-OSHA) carries out a prevention and awareness-raising campaign every two years. The 2018-2019 campaign is held under the theme "Healthy Workplaces - Managing Harmful Substances."
