Azores at Web Summit with 30 technology-based companies

The Azores will participate from today until Thursday, November 7, in the Web Summit, the world’s largest technology conference that is taking place at the Lisbon International Fair (FIL) and Altice Arena.

The Web Summit is considered the largest technology, entrepreneurship and innovation event in Europe. This edition features 20 scheduled conferences to be followed by 2,000 journalists from around the world, featuring more than 6,000 CEOs and more than 70,000 visitors from 140 countries.

The Region's representation is promoted by the Government of the Azores through its own stand featuring 30 regional technology-based companies, 15 of which are startups. It also includes a specialised team in attracting investment through the Society for Business Development of the Azores (SDEA).

Web Summit participants are not just technology-based startups. In fact, they are many others, notably SMEs, large business organisations, investors (venture capital funds, business angels, traditional banking), journalists and people interested in technology.

The event features several speakers, who will promote lectures on more than two dozen stages and conferences, a central stage at the Altice Arena, partner stands where they showcase their products, and exhibitors.

The Regional Government has a stand where the Azores will be promoted as an environmentally sustainable and attractive territory for technological investment, as well as in other sectors of economic activity. It is also a place where Azorean companies can establish contacts with more than 1,400 investors and develop potential partnerships.

Using new technologies, the Regional Government, through SDEA, provides a digital channel to disseminate among the 30 technology-based Azorean companies the investment and business development opportunities arising during the event, which will enable the investment attraction team to follow up the contacts that may be eventually established.

The Azores stand is also the space provided to the nine entities that make up the Business Incubator Network in the Region to meet with potential partners, announce measures and news as well as to discuss projects in the area of entrepreneurship, innovation, financing and internationalisation.
