The Vice-President of the Government stressed in Angra do Heroísmo the importance of the visit of the Ambassador of Turkey in Portugal, Hasan Gögüs, to the Azores at the invitation of the Regional Government. It is part of the preparation of a business mission carried out by that country to the Region in order to become acquainted with investment and business potentialities.
"We intend to present the potential of investment in the Region in strategic areas for our development" with one of the main world economies, said Sérgio Ávila. The government official spoke to journalists after a hearing at the Capitães Generais Palace.
The government official revealed that, during this three-day visit, the Region will "make known" what the Government of the Azores considers to be "the investment potential following the regional development strategy" that has been defined.
"We are working together to carry out a mission of international Turkish companies that will enhance the knowledge of the Region and the economic relation," said the government official.
It is intended "to boost the investment of Turkish companies in the Azores," emphasising that Turkey is part of G20, being "the 18th world economy".
Sérgio Ávila stated that, in addition to other areas of common interest, "Turkey has a great deal of experience and relevance in port matters," noting that, recently, a company from that country "has acquired the concession of the main national ports".
"In this regard, there is the possibility of reinforcing this intervention with the opportunities arising in the Azores related to the process that has already been announced as an international public tender for the concession of the exploration of the investment in Praia da Vitória port," said the government official.
The Vice-President of the Government also pointed out the importance of this business mission, which is being prepared to take place briefly, to disseminate the regional potentialities for investment in other areas.
