Employment programmes yield very positive results on Graciosa, says Sérgio Ávila
The Vice-President of the Government conveyed his satisfaction with the "extremely positive results" achieved by the implementation of the Government's employment programmes on the island of Graciosa.
Sérgio Ávila specifically pointed out the programme developed to support the hiring of workers by private companies and the agreements established between the Government and non-profit institutions for the signing of work contracts.
The Vice-President visited today the Santa Cruz Town Hall and the company Jardim - Construção e Reparação de Edifícios Lda. In the context of the Regional Government's visit to Graciosa, Sérgio Ávila revealed that both entities, which have joined the aforementioned programmes, currently employ 26 people, who were previously unemployed.
"With regard to the company Vila Jardim, the Government has supported the hiring of seven workers with the support of the "Integra" programme whilst the Town Hall hired 19 workers that were previously unemployed without benefits," specified the Vice-President.
According to Sérgio Ávila, "the good results of these measures" evidence that the encouragement and support to the creation of jobs by companies, and the promotion of activities of collective interest will contribute to the reduction of unemployment.
For the Vice-President of the Government, it is necessary to "stimulate economic activity and develop private initiative" so that we may all "combat the unemployment that still exists in the Azores."
"The series of measures will minimise these effects and will ensure the stability of employment in the Region in the medium and long-term," said Sérgio Ávila.
