Praia da Vitória ,  December 18, 2019

Five new companies to set up at Terceira Tech Island in the coming months

The Vice-President of the Government announced in Praia da Vitória that there are five new companies that intend to set up at Terceira Tech Island in the coming months, making up a total of 21 companies already established on Terceira Island due to the programming courses promoted by the Regional Government.

Sérgio Ávila spoke at the closing session of the 6th Academy of Code Programmer Training Course promoted under the Terceira Tech Island project. On the occasion, he stated that the project is “clearly exceeding business expectations.”

"We will soon have 21 companies set up at Terceira Tech Island and the employment prospects of the trainee who have now finished the training is extremely high as the demand for human resources has exceeded our supply capacity," said the government official.

According to the Vice-President, the 16 trainees who have now completed the course have more than one job proposal, which clearly demonstrates the need to continue investing in this project."

"Besides the new ones to be installed soon, the companies already installed in Praia da Vitória intend to increase recruitment as far as new projects have emerged all over the world, thus contributing to the growing demand for human resources."

In this context, the Vice-President, once again, called on Azoreans to "believe in this project, which does not require specific initial training."

“In fact, these courses are being attended by people who have just finished secondary school, vocational education graduates as well as by university graduates with bachelor and master's degrees in the most diverse areas, and some were already employed and quit their jobs; none of them regret their decision," said the government official.

Given the projection that Terceira Tech Island has been achieving, Sérgio Ávila acknowledged that this project could "grow as much as there are more people who want to join," so he also urged new trainees to promote the Academy of Code Programmer Training Course.

“All trainees who are about to complete their training consider that it was the best option of their lives and they will have a hugely successful future in programming,” said the government official.

This will increase employment on Terceira Island as well as the wealth generated on the island, seeing that many of these companies have turnovers of millions of Euros through this Island, which will have a huge impact on the Azoreans' quality of life,” stressed Sérgio Ávila.
