Government of the Azores promotes regional products at "El Corte Inglés" in Lisbon and Vila Nova de Gaia
As a result of a partnership between the Government of the Azores and "El Corte Inglés Portugal," Azorean products will be highlighted between April 15 and 28 in exclusive spaces at the supermarkets owned by this Spanish group in Lisbon and Vila Nova de Gaia.
Developed by the Vice-Presidency of the Government, through the Society for Business Development of the Azores (SDEA), the campaign will officially start with a showcooking in Lisbon by Azorean chef Alfredo Laves, who will showcase some of the delicacies from different islands.
The Lisbon and Vila Nova de Gaia supermarkets will feature numerous products, from meat to dairy products, with special emphasis on Azorean cheeses and wines, particularly those from Pico Island.
Moreover, the campaign will also highlight the following products: teas of São Miguel Island, D. Amélia cakes of Terceira Island, "queijadas" of Graciosa (traditional sweet), "queijadas" of Vila Franca do Campo (convent-made speciality) and the yeast cakes of São Miguel.
For 15 days, the nine islands of the Azores will be represented by their products in an exhibition covering different products of the agri-food sector and will include the presence of promoters who, in addition to making direct sales, will conduct daily tasting sessions.
At the same time, the "El Corte Inglês" Restaurant in Lisbon promote gastronomic days with menus featuring typical Azorean dishes, such as Azorean-style octopus stew and silverside beef (São Miguel), fried bluemouth rockfish with sweet potatoes and pickles (São Jorge), and roasted rump with sweet bread (Terceira), among others.
