Number of registered unemployed in the Azores is the lowest of the last six years
The Vice-President of the Government stated that the data from the Employment and Vocational Training Institute (IEFP) show a "consolidation of the downward trend" in unemployment and "give confidence" to the Regional Government regarding the goals set for the creation of more and better jobs.
According to IEFP, there was a decline of 10.4 in the number of registered unemployed last month, compared to the same month of 2017.
"These figures demonstrate that the number of registered unemployed in the Azores is the lowest of the last six years," stressed Sérgio Ávila. According to him, "this reality evidences the consistency of the strategy undertaken by the Azorean Government to create active policies and employment promotion measures."
The Agencies for Qualification and Employment of the Azores, according to IEFP data, registered 8,588 unemployed in April, which corresponds to about 1,000 fewer unemployed in comparison to the same period of 2017.
The government official also pointed out that, also in April, "the number of vacancies filled, that is, the response to job offers increased by 51.3% and requests for new jobs increased by 62%."
"The positive data must be recognised and valued, but in the context of moderation and responsibility that marks the new cycle of development of the Azores," said Sérgio Ávila.
