Promotion strategy enables marketing of PGI meat from the Azores by Makro Portugal
As part of the strategy to promote regional products and foster exports, the Government of the Azores promoted a business visit to the archipelago in 2017. It has enabled the marketing of GPI meat at the commercial establishments owned by Makro Portugal since the beginning of this year, through a business relation established with the company Verdatlântico; the latter is a member of the Azores Brand.
In addition to marketing, this wholesale distribution company has just launched a campaign to promote and disseminate Azorean products. It will cover other product categories over the course of 2018, such as fish, preserves, groceries and dairy products.
The visit of the company's representatives to the Azores last July was promoted by the Vice-Presidency of the Government, through the Society for Business Development of the Azores - SDEA. This initiative was intended to make them better acquainted with the origin of products, the production and manufacturing methods and establish direct contact with Azorean entrepreneurs.
Currently, Makro owns 10 establishments across the country and supplies more than 300 registered costumers.
The practical results of this visit of Makro representatives to the Azores are a further evidence of the fact that the Azores Brand strategy contributes to the increase in the consumption of regional products. Consequently, this translates into a growth of production, exports, wealth generation and employment creation in the Region, while raising the level competitiveness of Azorean companies.
