Regional Director for Employment discusses in Brussels good practices of the Azorean Government to combat youth unemployment
The Regional Director for Employment and Vocational Training, Ilda Baptista, participates in the Seminar on Employment in the Outermost Regions that is taking place until tomorrow in Brussels.
In this seminar, organised by the European Commission, Ilda Baptista has already delivered a paper in a round table on youth employment in these regions.
In her speech, the Regional Director presented several indicators on the Autonomous Region of the Azores to defend the view that the problem of unemployment, particularly with regard to youth unemployment, is linked to the specificities of an outermost region. This brings added difficulties to companies, making more difficult the economically sustainable development that is able to easily absorb all young people who complete their training.
Ilda Baptista pointed out several examples of good practices adopted by the Regional Government to counter these difficulties, such as the "Estagiar" (traineeship) programmes; the latter "has proved to be a good response that the Azorean Government has been providing to young Azoreans since 1998."
According to the Regional Director for Employment and Vocational Training, the "Estagiar" programme, "being a case of success, is a maintaining the most qualified population in the Region that has the potential to generate successful businesses or thrive already existing businesses.
