Regional Government launches tender for rehabilitation of support infrastructures for Terceira Tech Island project
The Regional Government, through SDEA - Society for Business Development of the Azores has launched three tender procedures, amounting to 5.15 million Euros, for the rehabilitation and adaptation of 138 housing units and the old school vacated by US forces at Lajes Air Base on Terceira Island.
The procedures will focus on the rehabilitation of Zone 1 of Beira-Mar Neighbourhood, comprising 80 dwellings, and the rehabilitation of Zone 3 within the same neighbourhood, covering 58 dwellings; both have a base price of 1.7 million Euros.
The rehabilitation and adaptation of the old "American School" (T-234) has a base price of 1.5 million Euros.
According to tender specifications, and after the implementation of the contract work, the deadlines for the completion of the works is set at eight months. The Regional Government expects to have these infrastructures with suitable conditions by the second half of 2019.
After the rehabilitation of these infrastructures, companies in the field of new technologies and others that are being attracted to Terceira Island will have adequate space to develop their activity as well as a housing stock to provide works with accommodation.
The Government of the Azores has moved forward with all the measures envisaged under Terceira Tech Island.
This initiative aims to create a technological hub on Terceira, attracting companies in the field of information and communication technologies through the provision of infrastructures, support to training and recruitment of qualified human resources, and allocation of financial incentives for investment.
The Regional Government aims, above all, to mitigate the social and economic effects arising from the reduction of the US military and civilian presence at Lajes Air Base, being in line with PREIT - Economic Revitalisation Plan for Terceira Island.
