The Regional Government has presented a new programme for the promotion of youth employment, designated as "Innovate," an initiative aimed at young people aged up to 30.
The Vice-President of the Government pointed out that this programme "fills a gap" in traineeship programme for young people without vocational training or higher education degrees.
Under the current programmes, those who complete vocational training have access to "Estagiar T" programme, while those with a higher education degree are covered by "Estagiar L" programme. However, there were no similar initiatives for young people who do not fit in the aforementioned situations.
According to Sérgio Ávila, the "Innovate" programme offers "the possibility of a traineeship for those without vocational training or higher education degree and will guarantee the hiring of half of the trainees."
The government official added that the registration period runs from April 15 to May 10 "so that trainees may begin work on June 1. This 11-month traineeship will be undertaken at public and private companies, non-profit entities and at the public administration, namely in strategic sectors."
The programme is open to young people with academic qualifications up to secondary school, who are currently unemployed and do not receive unemployment benefits. Under its provisions, entities are required to hire, at least, half of the trainees at the end of the traineeship.
