Terceira Tech Island is changing the lives of many Azoreans for the better, says Sérgio Ávila
The Vice-President of the Government stated at the Legislative Assembly that the Terceira Tech Island project has demonstrated that "the geographic location may not be a negative aspect" in many sectors of activity. In this context, he pointed out that, currently, "services are being exported from the centre of Praia da Vitória to three continents and we are working for countries like Austria, France, Belgium, Jordan and the United States, among others."
Sérgio Ávila spoke during a debate on the Integrated Strategy for Technological Development in the Azorean Economy. On the occasion, he stressed that this project demonstrates that "we can be as good, or better, and competitive as any other citizen in the world," adding that the Region "can attract international companies that can work for the world from the Azores."
The Vice-President also emphasised that the Terceira Tech Island "is primarily based on the optimisation of human resources" and its ability to attract companies demonstrates that the Azores have "an extremely competitive tax system" and "highly qualified human resources."
"What is happening in the centre of Praia da Vitória is a source of pride for all Azoreans. Currently, Azoreans from several islands are working at rua de Jesus for the four corners of the world," stressed the government official.
"We have managed to identify in the international context which sector is the most deprived and with the greatest potential for growth. We have succeeded in attracting and identifying the necessary training to address market needs in due time and with the require quality, launching high qualified professionals in the market and, consequently, attracting jobs," said Sérgio Ávila. On the occasion, he added that "attracting companies has also shown that we have an extremely competitive tax system as well as highly qualified human resources with proper training."
In his speech, the Vice-President highlighted "the size and projection of the Terceira Tech Island in national and international terms." As he added, the employment proposals for the 34 programming graduates completing the course in May are "clearly better," so all "those who successfully complete this training with the required standards have this job assured with quality."
"We will continue with this pace and increase its intensity so that the medium-term impact of the direct jobs on the economy and the generation of wealth on Terceira Island, through Terceira Tech Island, will be clearly higher than that arising from the reduction of direct jobs at Lajes Base," stressed the Vice-President.
"This is an undeniable reality. This is a goals that we have accomplished with this project. A project in which very few believed at first, but fortunately, young Azoreans believe in this project,” Sérgio Ávila said, adding that "Terceira Tech Island is changing the lives of many hundreds of Azoreans for the better."
"It is a factor of great hope. It is a factor of huge economic revitalisation. It has not been achieved with words, ads or with concrete works, but rather with the investment in the training needs sought after by international markets in economic terms and the identification of the right training for our human resources," added the Vice-President.
