The WorldSkills championship will take place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, from October 14 to 19, features more than 1,300 participants, including two Azoreans studying at the School of New Technologies of the Azores.
Luís Vieira (Computer Network Management) and Rodrigo Frias (Electrical Installations) make up the national delegation, which is composed of 17 young people.

Organised for the first time in a Middle Eastern country, WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 will be the biggest event ever promoted under WorldSkills, an organisation that congregates 77 countries. Its origins go back to 1950, when Portugal and Spain organised the first International Skills Championships.
The young Azoreans will be accompanies by teachers José Daniel Medeiros (Computer Systems) and André Rodrigues (Electricity), who will be also part of the jury panel.
The Azorean team also includes monitor António Paquete, from Capelas Vocational Training School, one of the two Team Leader of Portugal.
