The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry revealed that applications for 540 suckler cow premium rights in the Azores will run from June 2 to July 10.
The ordinance issued by João Ponte sets out the rules for the allocation of the rights available in the regional reserve.
Farmers who, as of February 1, 2020, have not delivered milk during 2019 may apply for the allocation of these rights, provided that, in case they do not hold rights, they have three or more female calves of the breeds considered eligible for the suckler cow premium.
Applications from farmers who hold rights up to a maximum of 2.9 and who have female calves of the breeds considered eligible for the suckler cow premium exceeding the number of allocated rights will also be considered eligible.
Applicants who are granted rights under this ordinance are required to use them for the suckler cow premium from 2021.
The allocated rights shall not be transferable except in cases of force majeure and exceptional circumstances.
