The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and the Environment pointed out the quality of the water supplied to Azorean consumers, as reflected in the 2014 report, the year when the results of the analysed parameters reached "values close to the maximum" in the Azores.
"Figures grew from 97.27 in the beginning of the current legislative period to 98.67 in 2014," said Luís Neto Viveiros. The government official highlighted the work that has been carried out by regional municipalities and the Azorean Government, through the Entity for the Regulation of Water and Waste Services.
Luís Neto Viveiros spoke at the public presentation of the report's findings, which is available for consultation at the address http://www.azores.gov.pt/Gra/srrn-ersara/conteudos/publicacoes/2015/Setembro/Relatorio_anual_qualidade_agua_2014.htm?lang=pt&area=ct.
As for the level of compliance with the sampling frequency certifies the safety of the control, the Secretary for the Environment revealed that the figures are at 99.73%.
The Regional Secretary also highlighted the series of incentives the Government of the Azores has created to support management bodies, "particularly in the area of control."
In this context, the government official mentioned the improvement of the water treatment and disinfection systems that provided Azorean municipalities with equipment to ensure proper water treatment to the consumers.
Accordingly, the Government approved this year a Support Programme for the Asset Management of Infrastructures. It is directed to the managing entities of water supply and wastewater sanitation systems that are subject to ERSARA.
The amount of financial support to be granted by ERSARA covers up to 80% of the cost incurred with the acquisition of computer equipment (software) to support the geographic information systems as well as the acquisition of the collection and formatting of data services. It may be increased to 25 thousand Euros per year and per fund manager.
