Government of the Azores launches international call for tenders for the construction of Graciosa Slaughterhouse
The Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and the Environment, through the Institute of Food and Agricultural Markets (IAMA), has launched an international public call for tenders for the construction of the new slaughterhouse on Graciosa, with a base price of 5.45 million Euros.
The announcement of the contract tender, published today in the Official Gazette, determines an implementation period of 18 months.
In addition to the slaughter process, it includes areas for the preparation of carcasses, a cutting room, a wastewater treatment plant, and a preparation and storage unit for the packaging by-products and leftovers.
This tender fulfils the commitment to provide all islands of the archipelago with infrastructures that will promote the meat sector, which represents an investment of nearly 15 million Euros in the Regional Network of Slaughterhouses in the current legislative period.
The construction of new slaughterhouses on Faial and Graciosa islands and the improvement works in slaughterhouses located on S. Miguel and Terceira fall within the policies to boost the Region's export capacity, through the consolidation of animal reception, slaughter and meat preparation infrastructure as well as the promotion of meat products.
