Marking the golden period of the construction of submarine cables in Horta which connected the Azores to the world, the Regional Government will start the classification process of an area known as "German Colony" in that city.
The classification comprises the stained glass of the main residential building that belonged to the German company Deutsche Atlantische Telegraphengesellschaft which made the connection between the city of Horta and the city of Borkum by submarine cable on May 26, 1900. This event marked a revolution in communications at that time.
After the completion of major repair works of Horta Basic Education School, the Trinity House (Operating Room) will be partially converted into a museum centre, as requested by the Horta Secondary Old Students' Association.
The current facilities of António José de Ávila Elementary and Middle School of Horta Basic Education are installed in the former premises of Horta Secondary School and two building of the old Submarine Cable Companies - Casa das Baterias and Trinity House.
