One hundred daily consultations available in Ponta Delgada to meet any increase in flu cases
The Regional Secretary for Health announced today that the Ponta Delgada Health Centre will increase consultations from Monday to address a possible increase in the number of flu cases.
"Daily consultations will increase from 44 to 100 in order to address all needs with regard to flu-like symptoms," said Rui Luís.
During this week, the Divino Espírito Santo Hospital registered 50 suspected flu cases at the emergency services; 20 were confirmed positive.
The Regional Secretary spoke to reporters on the sidelines of a meeting with the Administration Board of São Miguel Island Health Unit, adding that the vaccination campaign is yield results.
"Last year, by March, the vaccination rate among the population over 65 years was at 44%, while in January this year the vaccination rate reached 45.2%," said Rui Luís.
The Secretary for Health stressed that the response to the need for general practitioners is being analysed," through the increase of human resources and a more efficient analysis of patient lists per doctor."
On the occasion, Rui Luís announced that Jorge Morgado will be the new medical member appointed to the Administration Board of São Miguel Island Health Unit.
Jorge Manuel de Oliveira Morgado has exercised duties at Nordeste Health Centre for 25 and has held the position of Health Delegate until July 2016.
