Marta Guerreiro highlights investment of 2.5 million Euros in interventions in hydrographic network of Pico Island
The Regional Secretary for Energy, Environment and Tourism highlighted today the investment of 2.5 million Euros in a series of interventions in the hydrographic network of Pico Island carried out in recent years, pointing out several works in the parishes of Prainha do Norte, São Caetano and São Mateus.
Marta Guerreiro spoke during a visit to the site of the works for the recovery of culverts and the reprofiling of Ribeira da Calheta stream bed in São Mateus, municipality of Madalena.
"This visit allows us to verify that this contract work is at an advanced stage of completion, which is being carried out following the damage caused by the intense rainfall in February 2019," stressed the government official.
The Secretary for the Environment mentioned that this intervention corresponds to an investment of 330 thousand Euros and is expected to be completed later this month.
Marta Guerreiro recalled that the second phase of the contract work for the construction of the culvert under Rua do Meio and the sediment retention basin in Ribeira do Dilúvio stream, parish of São Caetano, has been recently completed.
“We are also completing the preliminary study for the flow diversion intervention in several water lines between Ribeira do Dilúvio stream and Ribeira da Prainha stream, which will also include the reprofiling of the stream bed and the expansion of some sections of the culverts located in Ribeira da Prainha stream in the parish of São Caetano. The project will be presented to the population in March," announced the government official.
On the occasion, the Regional Secretary highlighted the work carried out by the services of the Regional Directorate for the Environment in the “monitoring of the hydrographic network,” including the preparation of the Report on the State of Azorean Streams (RERA), and the regular maintenance of the drainage conditions of water lines.
