Pico Museum promotes exhibition titled "Yankee Whalers! The Shared Legacies of Luso and Yankee Whalers!"
The Pico Museum, in partnership with the Azores Sea Observatory, will open to the public the exhibition titled "Yankee Whalers! The Shared Legacies of Luso and Yankee whalers" at the Temporary Exhibition Gallery of the Whaling Industry Museum in S. Roque do Pico.
Produced by the New Bedford Whaling Museum, this itinerant exhibition celebrates the fascinating history of the Azorean, Cape Verdean and Brazilian Diaspora to the United States from the early 18th century to the latest emigration wave in the 20th century.
This exhibition highlights the way how the Lusophone Diaspora was essential for the development of the United States and how different cultures and communities, which share similar languages, are linked by maritime trade and prompted by the same motives.
"Yankee Whalers! The Shared Legacies of Luso and Yankee Whalers" is open until October 30 and may be visited from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 AM to 5.30 PM.
The Regional Directorate for Culture informs that this and other events may be consulted in the Cultural Agenda of CulturAçores Portal at the following address: www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt.
