President of the Government highlights role of fisheries for the development and creation of jobs in Lagoa
The Government of the Azores intends to move forward with the investment in the improvement of the operating conditions of Carneiros Fisheries Port in the city of Lagoa. This process will now enter a technical evaluation phase," announced Vasco Cordeiro today.
"This profound intervention to be carried out in this port represents the fulfilment of a commitment taken during the electoral campaign. At the present moment, the process will be subject to a technical analysis in order to determine its implementation," added the President of the Government after welcoming the Mayor of Lagoa City Hall.
After the audience held in Ponta Delgada, Vasco Cordeiro considered that this investment falls within the role played by the Fisheries sector in the strategy for the creation of jobs and the promotion of economic growth in the Municipality of Lagoa.
"This is a legitimate aspiration to strengthen the operating conditions of the Carneiros Port with the aim improving the way how the fisheries sector may contribute to employment creation and economic growth in the municipality of Lagoa," considered Vasco Cordeiro .
The future construction of a new housing development in the village of Ribeira Chã was another subject addressed at the audience with João Ponte. In this regard, the President of the Government stressed that this project will now be assessed at a technical level.
Vasco Cordeiro noted that urban renewal is one the guidelines of his government, but in the cases when this is not possible, other solutions should be found, such as the construction of new housing developments.
"The aspects highlighted at this audience are, according to Government, very positive as they evidence that Lagoa City Hall, led by João Ponte, has a very clear and precise vision of the needs and challenges we face, such as the case of housing, job creation and promotion of employability," concluded the President of the Government.
