Government of the Azores participates in Web Summit and supports presence of regional "startups"
The Government of the Azores, through the Vice-Presidency, participates in the Web Summit 2017 with its own stand, promoting the presence of "startups" created in regional incubators. The event runs from today until November 9 at FIL and Altice Arena in Lisbon.
This initiative, held under the "Invest In Azores" project, is primarily intended to disseminate the Region as a destination with great potential for the establishment of technology-based companies.
The Azores have focused on attracting qualified staff as well as on providing training in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), such as recent creation of the first programming course in partnership with the Code Academy. The initiative is included in Terceira Tech Island project.
Within this strategy of attracting investment in information technology, the Region promotes, in addition to the training offer, infrastructure facilities for the installation of companies and staff, as well as financial support through the existing incentive system.
With the implementation of this strategy, the Government of the Azores intends that the archipelago may be able to reach the "smart islands" level and take advantage of technological developments, particularly in the field of ICT. Moreover, it aims to promote innovation, generation of added-value products and, consequently, the Region's competitiveness and economic development.
