New projects demonstrate that the Regional Health Service is taking more and better care, says Teresa Machado Luciano
The Regional Secretary for Health noted in Vila do Porto that motivated and committed professionals, who “extend the scope of their intervention, implement new projects and strengthen ties with the community," are an example of how the Regional Health Service "is taking more and better care."
Teresa Machado Luciano spoke at the presentation of the project for the creation of alcoholology therapeutic groups at the Santa Maria Health Unit, which aims to increase the support to health users with problems related to alcohol abuse and dependence as well as to their families.
The Santa Maria Health Unit intends, through group therapy and continuous monitoring, to promote changes in the knowledge, attitudes and expectations of the concerned health users and their families, thereby minimising the impact of the disease on the community.
In this context, the creation of alcoholology therapeutic groups will be another intervention available to the population, providing tools and techniques for the modification of thoughts, feelings and actions related to alcohol consumption in an environment based on help-seeking and motivation.
Alcohol abuse and dependence have consequences on the individual's life at a personal, family, work, social and even legal level, such as domestic violence, depression, suicide and organic diseases.
