Government highlights importance of the work developed by librarians, archivists and documentalists in the Azores
The Regional Director for Culture praised today in Ribeira Grande, São Miguel, the importance of the work developed by librarians, archivists and documentalists in the Azores.
At the opening session of the 10th Regional Meeting "Overcoming Obstacles: the role of information professionals," promoted by the Regional Delegation Portuguese Association of Librarians, Archivists and Documentalists, Jorge Paulus Bruno stressed the support provided by the Azorean Government to these professionals.
According to the government official, this is a professional area which ensures a close connection to the Government that oversees public libraries in the Autonomous Regions and has a large number of regional archives.
Hence, Jorge Paulus Bruno stated that the Regional Government will continue to support these professionals as well as their association.
The Regional Director for Culture also recalled that the Azorean Government is currently reviewing the legislative structure that enables the allocation of financial support in order to improve this measure, making it more equitable.
