Azorean Government promotes meeting on Smart Specialisation Strategies of Macaronesia
The Government of the Azores, through the Regional Fund for Science and Technology, will hold a meeting under the project "Interregional Cooperation for Smart Specialisation of Regions MAC - RIS3_NET" at Expolab in Lagoa, São Miguel Island, next Thursday, December 14.
The meeting will be attended by representatives of various areas of society, namely political, academic, business and civil sectors. It will include the presentation and discussion of Smart Specialisation Strategies (RIS3) of the Azores, Madeira and the Canary Islands.
For the Regional Director for Science and Technology, this workshop "is of great importance for the Azores insofar as it promotes the debate on RIS3 strategies of the participating archipelagos."
In this regard, Bruno Pacheco pointed out "the exchange of best practices on research, development and innovation" as a major advantage as well as "the development of pilot actions."
The governance system of RIS3, the assessment and monitoring of these specialisation strategies are some of the topics to be addressed at this meeting, through a comparative analysis between Macaronesian regions.
This project is supported by seven partners from three countries, namely Portugal (Azores and Madeira), Spain (Canary Islands) and Cape Verde.
According to the Regional Director, the alignment of the Smart Specialisation Strategies of the archipelagos of Macaronesia "must be based on their complementarity and the enhancement of the resources of each region." He also added that "they also contribute decisively to increase the competitiveness of this region and its projection in Europe.
