This department of the Azorean Government holds competences on matters related to European Affairs and External Cooperation, Communities, Youth, Parliamentary Affairs and to the Media, in addition to the management and monitoring of governmental projects of transverse nature.

Under these competences, the Regional Secretary of the Presidency is delegated, as substitute, to serve as regional representative in various entities associated to regional cooperation in the European Union, such as the Committee of the Regions. This function is also delegated to the Under Secretary for European Affairs and External Cooperation in the cases of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions of Europe, the Congress of Local and Regional Powers of Europe and the Assembly of European Regions of the Council of Europe.  

In addition to these matters, the Office of the Regional Secretary of the Presidency administers the Publication Office of the Official Journal of the Autonomous Region of the Azores and is in charge of the coordination of the projects “Portal of the Regional Government” and “Electronic Government.”
